What is HETAS?
HETAS is a recognised government body for the approval of solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services. Since 1st April 2002 people wishing to have a new or replacement Solid Fuel or Wood burning product installed in their homes have had to obtain Building Control Approval from either their Local Authority or through the Competent Persons Scheme being operated by HETAS Ltd. Additional legislation effective from 1st June 2007 also requires you to produce a certificate of compliance for solid fuel installations that have been carried out in your property and could also be required as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP) if you should come to sell your property. Fireplace Installation Regulations Changes? As part of the Governments drive to improve standards throughout the Construction Industry and to further the conservation of fuel and power, the existing Building Regulations covering the installation of domestic heating equipment have undergone a major revision. These new Building Regulations apply to the installation of all new heating appliances using Solid Fuel and came into force 1st April 2002. Why should I use a HETAS registered engineer to install my fireplace or stove? As of 1st April 2002 it is now a criminal offence if you do not inform your local building control or use a HETAS engineer for your stove or fireplace installation.
Use a HETAS registered installer if you want a good quality, safe and compliant job. If you are thinking about getting a new solid fuel fireplace /fire/stove installed you can check that the company you are using is a HETAS registered installer at www.hetas.co.uk WARNING: If you do not use a HETAS registered business for your fireplace installation you could be increasing the risk of your appliance producing carbon monoxide which can be potentially fatal. |
